Don't bring your "MACHETE" to a gun fight.

Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” is an over-the-top piece of Mexican myth-making
By: Scott Mendelson
Needless to say, the film comes out strongly on the ‘pro’ side of immigration, be it legal or otherwise. We are told several times in one form or another that what is now Texas used to be Mexico, implying that Mexicans crossing into Texas are merely claiming refuge in what used to be their home. For what it’s worth, much of the West Coast was taken from Mexico after the Spanish-American War of 1848 under the guise of ‘manifest destiny’. And the picture comes right and and speaks to the absurd double-standards at play, that the political forces that wish to blame illegal immigrants for society’s ills are the same ones that grant temporary work-visas (the most common cause of illegal immigration, as many just stay when the visas expire) and promote immigration in order to keep the cost of labor down.

I was near a theater today, in between a couple of meetings i had i decided to take in a matinee. I'll give a brief synopsis.
This flick is over the top violent in the style of a 1970's B Blacksplotation film, It's so violent at times it really makes you laugh. The protagonist of coarse is machete and ex Mexican federale who becomes the center of a murder plot against a US senator (Robert Di Niro) After his wife is decapitated by a mexican drug lord Torres (Steven Segal).
After his wife is murdered machete somehow ends up in America working as a day laborer. After seeing machete in a fight, the senators assistant, Booth thinks machete would be a perfect scapegoat for a political assassination. Basically the guy unwittingly recruits James Bond with a real mean streak. Machete uses anything at his disposal to hack, slash or bludgeon his way to the center of the plot. This is the premise of the whole movie.
I'll leave the political ramifications for you to decide. I will say that both sides of the debate are represented pretty fairly. Machete even goes so far as to work with a immigration enforcement agent. She tries to make him do things the "legal" way, and explains the American "system" to him. One thing did bother me though, they explain Mexico is a personal hell. That's why everyone's running to America. why cant' they make a film where they have their revolution in Mexico?
Anyway, if you've just heard alex jones talk about this film and not anyone else. Your really not getting the big picture of this film, you should check it out for yourself. It's really just satire on mexican culture, a new genre: mexplotation?
I didn't see the last 5-10 minutes though because i had to be at my meeting, but lindsay lohan naked! [9.5/10]
