Taliban Escape Prison

More than 470 inmates have escaped from a jail in Afghanistan. The warden says they got away through an underground tunnel, over 350m long.

The Taliban says more than 100 of their commanders were set free at the prison, in the city of Kandahar.

It is the second major escape from the jail, after a Taliban attack in 2008, in which 900 prisoners were freed.

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville said prisoners did not break out but in fact people outside broke into the jail.
