George Galloway has been banned from Canada

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/mar/20/george-galloway-banned-canada

Anti-war MP George Galloway has been banned from Canada, it emerged today.

A Canadian spokesman confirmed that the Respect MP had been deemed inadmissible on national security grounds and would not be allowed into the country.

Galloway today branded the ban "idiotic" and vowed to fight the ruling with "all means" at his disposal. He is due to give a speech in Toronto on 30 March.

Earlier today the Sun said border security officials had declared Galloway, 54, "inadmissible" because of his views on Afghanistan and the presence of Canadian troops there and would be turned away if he attempted to enter the country.

A spokesman for Citizenship and Immigration Canada said the decision had been taken by border security officials "based on a number of factors" in accordance with section 34(1) of the country's immigration act.

The act states:

"A permanent resident or a foreign national is inadmissible on security grounds for:

(a) engaging in an act of espionage or an act of subversion against a democratic government, institution or process as they are understood in Canada;

(b) engaging in or instigating the subversion by force of any government;

(c) engaging in terrorism;

(d) being a danger to the security of Canada;

(e) engaging in acts of violence that would or might endanger the lives or safety of persons in Canada; or

(f) being a member of an organisation that there are reasonable grounds to believe engages, has engaged or will engage in acts referred to in paragraph (a), (b) or (c)."

Galloway, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, is consulting the organisers of his north American speaking tour and exploring whether legal action can be taken to overturn the ban.

Jason Kenney, Canada's immigration minister, has the right to exempt people from the act if it is felt that their presence would not be "detrimental to the national interest".

But a spokesman said Kenney would "decline to exercise that discretion" in Galloway's case.

Alykhan Velshi, Kenney's spokesman, said that the act was designed to protect Canadians from people who fund, support or engage in terrorism.

"We're going to uphold the law, not give special treatment to this infandous street-corner Cromwell who actually brags about giving 'financial support' to Hamas, a terrorist organisation banned in Canada," he said. "I'm sure Galloway has a large Rolodex of friends in regimes elsewhere in the world willing to roll out the red carpet for him. Canada, however, won't be one of them."

Responding to the news, Galloway issued a statement headed: "This idiotic ban shames Canada."

The MP said: "This decision, gazetted in Rupert Murdoch's Sun, is a very sad day for the Canada we have known and loved – a bastion of the freedoms that supporters of the occupation of Afghanistan claim to be defending.

"This has further vindicated the anti-war movement's contention that unjust wars abroad will end up consuming the very liberties that make us who we are.

"This may be a rather desperate election ploy by a conservative government reaching the end of line, or by a minister who has not cottoned on to the fact that the George Bush era is over.

"All right-thinking Canadians, whether they agree with me over the wisdom of sending troops to Afghanistan or not, will oppose this outrageous decision.

"On a personal note – for a Scotsman to be barred from Canada is like being told to stay away from the family home.

"This is not something I'm prepared to accept."

Galloway is due to speak at a public forum entitled Resisting War from Gaza to Kandahar, hosted by the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War later this month.

He is also due to speak at a second public forum in Mississauga, west of Toronto, on 31 March.

His proposed visit prompted the Jewish Defence League of Canada to write an open letter to the country's government urging it to do "everything possible to keep this hater away".

In 2006, Galloway was refused entry to Egypt on the grounds of national security after he travelled to the country to give evidence at a "mock trial" of Tony Blair and George Bush.

He was held overnight in a police cell before the authorities changed their minds and allowed him into the country.

Roughly 500 people gathered inside the city's Metropolitan United Church to hear -- and watch -- Galloway speak on a large screen. Although the speech focused on the war in Afghanistan and the most recent conflict in the Gaza Strip, Galloway frequently mocked Immigration Minister Jason Kenney...

Special Alert: U.S. Currency Exchange Controls

Special Alert: U.S. Currency Exchange Controls Print E-mail

by Patrick Wood, Editor
March 31, 2009

Could President Obama and Treasury Secretary Geithner suddenly impose currency exchange controls on the United States and the U.S. dollar? This report will explore this notion and its possible consequences.

World leaders have been begging for a global currency for several weeks now. With global trade falling apart and national economies in continued meltdown, these leaders view the resurgence of global trade as the only salvation for economic recovery. Within that demand is the realization that the only enablement is a new global currency that everyone can agree on.

Today, China is calling for the SDR (Special Drawing Right, or some variation) to replace the dollar as the globe's primary reserve currency. Russia is also calling for the SDR and some type of gold peg to add further legitimacy. Other leaders around the world are calling for a global currency without suggesting exactly what it should be.

The SDR is exclusively issued and controlled by the International Monetary Fund.

The August Review has previously presented reports on the International Monetary Fund, the Bank for International Settlements, and the World Bank, all of which have a stake in global currency exchange and control.

Note: It is strongly suggested that you read or re-read all three of these papers (written in 2005-2006) if you want to understand the issues of global currency. If implemented, any scheme for a global currency would be a major stepping stone to global economic and political governance.

In the paper, Global Banking: The International Monetary Fund, this writer concluded the section Currency, Monetary Roles and Gold by stating,

"Suffice it to say that if so many organizations have conspired to keep "gold as money" out of the public mind, then gold is not dead but just temporarily on the shelf. When fiat currencies have been drained dry by the global cartel, gold will likely be brought back by the same people who told us it was forever a dead issue."

In the paper, Global Banking: Bank for International Settlements paper, this writer further stated,

"There is no doubt that the BIS is moving the world toward regional currencies and ultimately, a global currency. The global currency could well be an evolution of the SDR, and may explain why the BIS recently adopted the SDR as its primary reserve currency."

Bankers and heads-of-state that comprise the G20 conference in London this week will very likely produce some resolution to the global currency debacle. At the very least, the SDR will be offered as the stepping-stone to global currency because it is already in place and in use throughout the world.

The dilemma will be how can the holders of dollars (e.g., China) convert them into SDR's?

Since the dollar is already part of the basket that makes up the SDR, it will be easy enough for China to turn over their dollars to the IMF to get SDR's in exchange. But, they will have to take some hit for doing so. To overcome their resistance, adding a gold component to the SDR might be just the carrot that assures a China (and others) buy-in.

But, what will the IMF do with all these dollars? This could be the big rub. They can't just return the excess dollars to the U.S. Treasury because it would cause massive hyperinflation at home. They can't just burn them, either. So legislating them to be part of the SDR would make some sense, but that may not be enough to control the slush.

This writer's conjecture is: Could Obama/Geithner, without any advance notice, slap currency exchange controls on the U.S. that would prevent the repatriation of these excess dollars, and effectively land-lock the dollars already here?

Such a move would immediately set up a two-tiered system of currency for the U.S.: Internal and External.

The pain this would put on America would be sacrificed for the greater global good. Otherwise, it could simultaneously solve several problems:

  1. Currency manipulation - countries like China would be hard-pressed to manipulate the Yuan without the dollar
  2. Currency fluctuations - the SDR would be buffered by component currencies that usually trade in the opposite direction to each other
  3. Global trade - international partners would have an agreed-upon medium of exchange monitored by the IMF
  4. Trade financing - the SDR would have the support of the ', CAPTION, 'World Bank',BELOW,RIGHT, WIDTH, 300, FGCOLOR, '#CCCCFF', BGCOLOR, '#333399', TEXTCOLOR, '#000000', CAPCOLOR, '#FFFFFF', OFFSETX, 10, OFFSETY, 10);" onmouseout="return nd();">World Bank and the Bank for International Settlements to resuscitate and facilitate global shipping

While good for global trade, the impact could be potentially devastating to wealthy and semi-wealthy Americans who have sought financial safety by spreading their assets around the world via currencies, foreign gold deposits, Swiss bank accounts, etc., because they might not be able to get their assets back into the United States or U.S. assets out of the country.

For globalists like Jim Rogers, the billionaire former partner of George Soros (a major Obama financier), he could live in any part of the world he desired. Rogers recently told the the largest media outlets in the world, and is run by twelve governors who act

that "There will probably be exchange controls in the US in their (his children) lifetime. I have given up on the US dollar and sterling." This is long-range thinking, but he is thinking it nonetheless.

In November 2007, John Dizard wrote in The Financial Times,

"Within the stream of coded language and doubletalk coming from officialdom these days, you can find louder signals of preparations for exchange control regimes in the developed world. This is bad news for almost everyone, but in particular for the investment community. When exchange controls - no doubt in another name - are imposed in Europe or the US, the official targets will be "speculators" or financial manipulators lurking in the shadows."

Indeed, the speculators are now the likes of the hedge fund industry and the manipulators are countries like China who have manipulated their currency for years.

The greatest danger of exchange controls is that there is never advance notice. Rather, they are just suddenly announced and then you are trapped for the duration.

The G20 leaders are desperate for some political solution to the global economic crisis. Both PM Gordon Brown and President Obama are grasping at straws in an attempt to maintain their leadership roles and keep globalization alive. With 20 very opinionated countries trying to reach some ordinary consensus (very unlikely), the presentation of a "shock and awe" solution could break the log jam.

In light of this possibility, investors, exporters and businesses would do well to rethink their domestic and overseas strategies.

In the meantime, keep a sharp eye on the G20 meeting in London.

Ontario, CA, Tent City Residents Required to Wear Wristbands

Published on 03-31-2009 Source: Los Angeles Times

Tent City residents gather as the city of Ontario starts the process of sorting out who may stay and who must leave. The city issued wristbands – blue for Ontario residents, who may stay, orange for people who need to provide more documentation, and white for those who must leave. The aim is to reduce the number of people living there from over 400 to 170.

Officials begin thinning out the encampment, saying the city can provide space only for those who once lived there and can prove it.

Dozens of Ontario police and code enforcement officers descended upon the homeless encampment known as Tent City early Monday, separating those who could stay from those to be evicted.

Large, often confused, crowds formed ragged lines behind police barricades where officers handed out color-coded wristbands. Blue meant they were from Ontario and could remain. Orange indicated they had to provide more proof to avoid ejection, and white meant they had a week to leave.

Many who had taken shelter at the camp -- which had grown from 20 to more than 400 residents in nine months -- lacked paperwork, bills or birth certificates proving they were once Ontario residents.

"When my husband gets out of jail he can bring my marriage certificate; will that count?" asked one tearful woman.

Another resident, clearly confused, seemed relieved to get a white band -- not understanding it meant she had to leave.

Pattie Barnes, 47, who had her motor home towed away last week, shook with anger.

"They are tagging us because we are homeless," she said, staring at her orange wristband. "It feels like a concentration camp."

Ontario officials, citing health and safety issues, say it is necessary to thin out Tent City. The move to dramatically reduce the population curtails an experiment begun last year to provide a city-approved camp where homeless people would not be harassed.

Land that includes tents, toilets and water had been set aside near Ontario International Airport for the homeless. Officials intended to limit the camp and its amenities to local homeless people, but did little to enforce that as the site rapidly expanded, attracting people from as far away as Florida.

"We have to be sensitive, and we will give people time to locate documents," said Brent Schultz, the city's housing and neighborhood revitalization director. "But we have always said this was for Ontario's homeless and not the region's homeless. We can't take care of the whole area."

Officials believe the local homeless number about 140, less than half of those currently in residence. Schultz wants to reduce Tent City to 170 people in a regulated, fenced-off area rather than the sprawling open-air campsite it has become.

No other city has offered to take in any of the homeless who Ontario officials say must leave.

"So far I have heard nothing," Schultz said.

Even before the large-scale action Monday, police last week moved out parolees and towed about 20 dilapidated motor homes. A list of safety rules, including one banning pets, has been posted. The city says there is a threat of dog bites and possible disease from the animals.

The no-pet order caused widespread anger and tears Monday as some homeless people said they could not imagine life without their dogs. Many have three or four and vowed to leave Tent City before giving the dogs up.

"I will go to jail before they take my dog," said an emotional Diane Ritchey, 47. "That's a part of me as much as anything. The dogs are as homeless as we are."

Cindy Duke, 40, hugged Ritchey, who was sobbing.

"I had to give up my 6-year-old son because I was homeless and I'll be damned if I give up my dog too," Duke said.

Celeste Trettin, 53, rolled up in a wheelchair. She and her husband have an Ontario address but have lived for years in a truck, parking wherever they found a safe place. Trettin, who got an orange wristband, said she believed she would be able to find the paperwork to prove she was from Ontario.

"We thought if we came here we could save some money, but now they have pulled the rug out from under us," said Trettin, who has fibromyalgia, a painful disorder.

Brother decapitates sister after birthday party
* March 30, 2009

A US man on a rampage killed two sisters, decapitating one, before officers shot him dead in what their chief described as "a killing field''.

The man fatally stabbed his 17-year-old sister, beheaded his five-year-old sister in front of a police officer and then turned toward his nine-year-old sister with a knife in his hand before being shot.

There was no clear motive for the events that unfolded on Saturday, the day after the five-year-old's birthday, in a wealthy Boston suburb, Milton.

Fear of new regs drives gun, ammo shortage

By BEN NEARY – 1 day ago

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Concern that the Obama administration could impose a new ban on some semiautomatic weapons is driving worried gun owners to stockpile ammunition and cartridge reloading components at such a rate that manufacturers can't meet demand.

Attorney General Eric Holder last month suggested that the Obama Administration favors reinstituting a U.S. ban on the sale of assault weapons. President Bill Clinton first signed such a ban into law in 1994, generally blocking some military-style guns with magazines that hold many cartridges. President George Bush had allowed the ban to expire.

"We have heard from all across the country that there is a tremendous shortage of ammunition," said Lawrence Keane, senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation. "We've heard this from the manufacturers, that their customers are calling them trying to get supplies for inventory, and that the manufacturers are going full-bore, pardon the pun."

The Newtown, Conn.-based foundation is a trade organization representing firearms and ammunition manufacturers as well as retail gun shops.

"Semiautomatic rifles are selling at an incredibly brisk pace," said Keane, adding that many manufacturers of semiautomatic rifles and pistols are already so backordered that this year's entire production is already spoken for.

He said the current ammunition shortage followed the increase in gun sales. While the current shortage includes cartridges for popular semiautomatic rifles and pistols that were covered by the Clinton-era weapons ban, it also extends to other common varieties including common revolver cartridges and .22 rimfire cartridges used for hunting or target shooting.

In Wyoming, the run on bullets and reloading components reached such a frenzy that Cheyenne retailer Frontier Arms recently began rationing sales, said Becky Holtz, co-owner of the shop. Holtz said she's also been selling semiautomatic rifles as fast as she can put them on the shelves.

"You know there's something wrong when I've got little old ladies coming in buying 5,000 rounds of .22 shells," Holtz said.

Jere Jordan is general manager Midsouth Shooters Supply in Clarksville, Tenn. — one of a handful of firms in the country that specializes in mail-order sales of ammunition and reloading components and equipment.

In common with similar supply houses, Midsouth has run out of most ammunition in the calibers commonly used in semiautomatic pistols and popular military rifles. It's also backordered on many other types of cartridges.

"After the election, where you have a change of parties to a more liberal side, I would say I guess the conservatives want to protect what they feel might be taken away from them, either through a tax, or an all-out ban," Jordan said.

Midsouth and other similar dealers say they're also sold out of most varieties of primers used by hobbyists to handload cartridges. Primers are the explosive caps that ignite gunpowder in rifle and pistol cartridges.

Jordan said his company is taking orders for bullets and primers, but isn't sure when they'll be filled.

"The wait? We're not even guessing on the wait anymore," Jordan said. "It's exceeding 60 days."

Keane, of the Shooting Sports Foundation, said there are no national statistics that directly track firearms sales. However, he noted that there's been a sharp rise in the number of instant background checks that the FBI performs each time a person buys a gun at a gun store. Such checks are not required for personal sales, or for gun purchases at gun shows.

The FBI performed more than 4.2 million firearms background checks from November 2008 through this January, according to agency figures. That's an increase of more than 31 percent above the 3.2 million checks the agency performed from November 2007 through January 2008.

Keane said concerns other than the prospect of new federal regulations are also driving gun and ammunition sales. Those include the faltering economy and the potential side-effect of an increase in crime, he said.

"There's a concern about what's happening to the stock market, what's happening with unemployment, what's happening with the tremendous increase in government spending, whether there will be hyperinflation," Keane said.

For some sad reason, there are many people out there who cannot even imagine a link between high income and themselves; so they live their lives paycheck to paycheck. If that makes them happy, let them be! No one can change their destiny for them.

Those of us who saw the opportunity FHTM offers and ran with it are now reaping the benefits and leaving behind the paycheck to paycheck days.

It's a matter of inner drive and personal choices. Nothing else!

Those who say FHTM is a scam fall under one of two categories; they were either too scared to try it; or tried it & gave up after a few 'no's.

My friend has been doing it for 2 years & made over $400K during that time; he got the free lexus (he calls it the $299 Lexus); two of my friends started in September of last year and both are over $15 K since then. I'm closing my first month at $4045.

But that might be changing a bit. There are rumblings of a long overdue re-emergence of Americans’ characteristic spirit of rebellion. Continue

Is There Any Gold Left in Fort Knox?

'It is said to be the most impregnable vault on Earth: built out of granite, sealed behind a 22-tonne door, located on a US military base and watched over day and night by army units with tanks, heavy artillery and Apache helicopter gunships at their disposal.

Since its construction in 1937 the treasures locked inside Fort Knox have included the US Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, three volumes of the Gutenberg Bible and Magna Carta.

For several prominent investors and at least one senior US congressman it is not the security of the facility in Kentucky that is a cause of concern: it is the matter of how much gold remains stored there - and who owns it.'

DNA Scan Could Cut Your Insurance Premiums

'Taking genetic tests to assess potential health risks could mean cheaper medical insurance even if the results are not disclosed, a senior industry executive has told The Times. Customers who take personal DNA scans will pay lower premiums because insurers believe that they encourage a healthier lifestyle, according to Gil Baldwin, the managing director of Norwich Union Healthcare.

The advent of tests for DNA variants that affect common disorders such as diabetes and heart disease has prompted fears of discrimination and the creation of a "genetic underclass" who cannot buy cover.

Mr Baldwin insisted that his company did not see genetics as a tool for cherry picking low-risk customers but as a way of helping them to manage and reduce their risk of disease with the aim of lowering costs for both parties.'

Obama Youth : Mandatory Civillian Service 2009

House Passes Mandatory National Service Bill
Legislation intensifies fears about Obama's civilian national security force

Paul Joseph Watson\Prison Planet.com\Thursday, March 19, 2009

The House passed a bill yesterday which includes disturbing language indicating young people will be forced to undertake mandatory national service programs as fears about President Barack Obama’s promised “civilian national security force” intensify.

The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act, was passed yesterday by a 321-105 margin and now goes to the Senate.

Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

“The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175,000 “new service opportunities” under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional “corps” to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation,” reports Fox News.

The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act,” which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.
